Frequently Asked Questions

About FAQs

What exactly does CustomXM do?

We’re a full-service print, signage, promotional products, and direct mail company based in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Think of us as your one-stop marketing production shop. If your name, logo, or message needs to go on something, we can probably make that happen. We’ve been doing this for over 60 years, so we’ve seen a few things.

How long has CustomXM been in business?

CustomXM has been serving Arkansas businesses and organizations for over 60 years. We’re a family-owned company, now in our third generation, located in the Argenta Arts District of North Little Rock. We’ve outlasted a lot of fads. We plan to outlast a few more.

Do you work with individuals, or just businesses?

We work with both, but we are built for businesses. Our focus is the business owner who needs a reliable marketing production partner, rather than a one-time order. We serve organizations like restaurants, retailers, nonprofits, event venues, colleges, medical practices, real estate teams, and contractors who have a brand, logo, and ongoing print, signage, or promotional needs.

A practical way to know if we are a good fit: if you have a business email address and a website, we are likely your people. This indicates you operate at a level where we can genuinely add value, communicate effectively, send proofs, and build a strong working relationship.

That is not a hard rule, and we will not turn anyone away. However, if you are looking for a long-term vendor who knows your brand, anticipates your needs, and picks up the phone when you call, that is exactly what we have provided to businesses in Arkansas for over 60 years.

Not sure if you fit the mold? Reach out anyway. We ask good questions.

Same-day service may be possible depending on the request, and fees may apply. Email orders@customxm.com with the project details to check availability.

What is your turnaround time for print?

Turnaround varies by project. Some jobs can be finished in 1-2 days, while others require more time. Include your deadline when submitting an order so the team can coordinate production around your required timeframe.

Can you print on customer-provided materials?

No. To ensure proper quality control and protect our equipment, we cannot print on outside materials. Contact orders@customxm.com for details.

Do you offer direct mail services?

Yes. We can help with everything from concept and design to printing, mailing and delivery to the mailbox.

Do I need to have my own mailing list to do direct mail?

No. While a good house list is often your most valuable audience, we can also help purchase targeted mailing data to reach new prospects based on the audience you’re trying to reach.

What is CMYK?

CMYK is four inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) mixed on press to build almost any color. It’s the standard for photos and full-color printing.

What is a spot color?

A spot color is a single pre-mixed ink instead of a blend of four. Use one when a brand color has to match exactly on every job.

What is a PMS color?

PMS is the Pantone Matching System, the numbering standard for pre-mixed inks. “PMS 186” means the same red every time, on every press, anywhere.

What is bleed?

Bleed is artwork that extends past the trim line so color runs all the way to the edge after cutting. Paper shifts on the cutter, and without bleed that shift shows up as a white sliver along the edge. We ask for 1/8″ of bleed on all four sides.

What is die-cutting?

Die-cutting cuts paper, vinyl, or board into a custom shape instead of a rectangle. Think shaped hang tags, stickers, presentation folders, and custom packaging

Promo FAQs

What are promotional products, and do they actually work?

Promotional products are branded items like apparel, drinkware, bags, tech accessories and notebooks that help build awareness, reward employees or simply say thank you. They work because they’re tangible. A useful item can keep your name in front of someone for months. At CustomXM, we treat swag as a marketing tool with a job to do, not just another giveaway.

How do I pick the right promotional item for my event or audience?

Start with the goal. Who’s receiving it, what do you want them to remember, and what’s your budget? Tell us what you’re trying to accomplish and we’ll help narrow thousands of possibilities into a few smart choices.

How far in advance should I order custom promotional products?

Most items can be produced within 2-3 weeks after final artwork approval. Have a firm event date? Tell us upfront and we’ll recommend products that fit your timeline.

Is there a minimum order quantity, and what should I budget for custom swag?

Minimums and pricing vary by product, quantity and decoration method. Some products are available in relatively small quantities, while others become more economical at larger volumes. Give us your quantity, budget and goal, and we’ll help you find options that make sense.

Can CustomXM handle my printing, signs, apparel and promotional products together?

Absolutely. CustomXM can coordinate printed materials, direct mail, signs, banners, apparel and promotional products as part of one campaign or project. That means more consistent branding, fewer vendors to manage and one team helping keep everything on track.

Do you offer promotional products that are made in the USA?

Yes. We can help you find promotional products made in the USA.

Do you offer promotional products that are compliant with Arkansas Act 943?

Yes. CustomXM is your partner for Act 943-compliant swag with verified country of origin and vetted sources.

What is Arkansas Act 943?

Act 943 prohibits state agencies and public universities in Arkansas from buying promotional items like pens, mugs, clothing, and keychains that are manufactured in China.

Artwork FAQs

Can you print AI-generated artwork?

It depends. We will gladly print your AI art as-is, or we can use it as a draft to recreate print-ready art at our standard hourly rate. Please send your art to orders@customxm.com for details.

What file types do you prefer?

While we can work with a wide range of file types, those best suited for print are PDF, EPS, AI, and SVG with vector artwork.

Do you offer layout and logo/design services?

Yes. Please email orders@customxm.com to discuss your design project needs.

Can you work with art made in Canva?

Yes. Send your Canva file’s sharable link to orders@customxm.com and we will take it from there.

What is vector art?

Vector art is a special type of file created with graphic design applications like Adobe Illustrator that can be scaled to any size without reducing the print quality.

Is vector art required for my order?

It depends. Almost all promotional products order will require vector artwork. It is preferred for print and sign orders as well, but might not be necessary if your file is the proper size.

Can you turn my file into usable vector art?

It depends. Please send your file to orders@customxm.com and we will take a look. Fees may apply depending on the complexity of work required.

What resolution should images be?

300 dpi at final print size for anything someone holds: business cards, brochures, postcards. Large-format pieces viewed from a distance can run lower, roughly 100 to 150 dpi at full size. Images pulled off a website usually won’t work, since those are built for screens at 72 dpi. Vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) scale to any size with no quality loss, so send those when you have them.

Why do my printed colors look different than on my screen?

Your screen makes color with light. Print makes it with ink on paper. Some screen colors, especially bright blues and greens, simply can’t be reproduced with ink. Monitor brightness and calibration vary too, so two people looking at the same file see two different colors. When color accuracy matters, ask for a printed proof before we run the job.
